Milestones marking the commencement of a diversified activity

1941 Abengoa is established in Seville and begins operation as a multi-field engineering company.
   
1963 Sainco (Sociedad Anónima de Instalaciones de Control), the origin of Telvent, commences activities focusing on the development, supply, manufacturing, installation and maintenance of industrial process control and monitoring systems. This is the origin of the current Energy business area of Telvent.
   
1968 The road signals and traffic department is created in Sainco, later to become Sainco Tráfico. This milestone represents the first step to the diversification of the current Transportation business of Telvent.
   
1969 Sainco is integrated into Abengoa and joins its Telematics Division, thereby diversifying its original activity. Further diversification activities ensued, with the nuclear sector being of note.
   
1970 A Defense Division, focused on the naval sector, is established within Sainco.
   
1974 Sainco’s road signals and traffic department becomes Sainco Tráfico, an Abengoa company specialized exclusively in the road traffic and transportation sector.
   
1978 Abengoa’s Telematic Division starts working for the National Meteorology Institute of Spain. This is the origin of the current Environmental activity of Telvent, once that Telematic Division is integrated in Sainco in 1985.
   
1987 The new company Siatec, dedicated to the information systems outsourcing and the Abengoa corporate network, represents the first step towards the current Global Services business of Telvent.


Internationalization and globalization of the company

The 1990s see the commencement of the company’s internationalization process, with operations in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and China.

This is the era in which the market experiences the massive deployment of the internet, mobile telephone systems, fiber optic networks, etc. Within this framework, Telvent undertakes all activities that are directly related to Abengoa’s industrial process control systems business.

1992 Restructuring within Abengoa results in Sainco becoming the holding company of the Control and Telecommunication Systems Group. It quickly becomes the leading company in the sector with a deep-rooted presence in the international market. Its activities focus on the telecommunications, energy, transportation, environment, and naval segments.
   
1998 The largest network of neutral data centers on the Iberian Peninsula, with offices in Madrid, Seville, Barcelona and Lisbon, is brought into operation.
   
2000 The company Internet Datahouse is established to provide data center services to corporate clients.
The company Telvent Interactiva is established to provide information systems business solutions focusing on internet and outsourcing technologies. This is currently the Public Administration business area of Telvent.


Looking towards North America—evolution to the present

2003 The acquisition of Metso’s SCADA Division is consolidated by Telvent. The company has operations in Europe, North America, Latin America and China.
Telvent is adopted as the name and brand for all the company in all markets.
   
2004 Telvent is listed on the North American NASDAQ stock exchange, being the first Spanish company launching North American markets listing.
Also in that year, several acquisitions are made that enrich the company’s technological offerings:
  • ICX Sistemas, dedicated to information technologies applied to health
  • Western Region Division of Xwave Solutions, an affiliate company of Aliant and a provider of information technology outsourcing services in the energy sector
  • Miner & Miner, world leader in the development and implementation of GIS software for utilities
2005 Telvent acquires the Perth (Australia) based company Almos Systems, a leading provider of meteorological solutions.
   
2006 Telvent makes three acquisitions, in China, Spain and the US: Beijing Blue Shield, Maexbic and PB Farradyne, respectively. These companies expand Telvent’s expertise in the traffic and transportation sectors.
   
2007 Acquisition of Caseta Technologies, a US-based company dedicated to the development of electronic toll systems.
