High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Operator- Full and Part-time

The position is responsible for the opening, closing and reversal of HOV lanes on I-66 and I-395/95 in Northern Virginia. Duties include the opening and closing of gates tthat control access to the HOV lanes, inspecting traffic control devices to make sure approrpiate messages or signals are displayed on changeable message signs and lane control signs, ensuring the reversible lanes are clear of opposing traffic and generally ensuring the HOV lanes are safe and ready for operation. This is a critical transportation activity that can have extensive adverse regional impacts if not performed in a timely and accurate manner. Therefore, individuals must be reliable and responsibile.

The individual should be able to work in a team/individual environment, as well as the capability to make decisions in stressful situations. Flexibility is a must as odd shifts, weekend work and shift rotation is required.Individual must be detail oriented and demonstrate problem solving ability. The individual must be prepared to work outside in potentially extreme weather conditions, and observe appropriate safety procedures to avoid injury and accidents at all times.  

Requirements:

High School graduates are preferred and must be 25 years or older. The individual must have a clean driving record, and be able to pass a criminal history check and drug test. Individual must maintain a clean, professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
