Hurricane
Katrina forces rescheduling of PSIG 2005 Conference
Madrid, September 26, 2005 - Telvent (NASDAQ TLVT), the
Global RealTime IT Company, will be presenting a paper on
leak detection at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Pipeline
Simulation Interest Group (PSIG) to be held at the Hyatt Regency
Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas from November 7-9,
2005. Originally set for October 26 - 28 in New Orleans, the
devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina forced the PSIG conference
to be rescheduled and relocated to a different host city.
Concerning the change in location and date, PSIG issued the
following statement, "We appreciate your understanding of
this situation. Many lives have been affected by this great
tragedy, and our hearts go out to the people of New Orleans
and the surrounding areas."
The 2005 PSIG conference will feature a distinguished group
of industry experts specialized in pipeline operations, hydraulics,
optimization, and transient and two phase flow, who will present
the latest technological advances in pipeline modeling applications.
One such application, leak detection, is widely acknowledged
for its critical impact on environmental safety and operational
efficiency.
Not all components of leak detection, however, are necessarily
easily or widely deployed. Telvent's paper will focus on one
of the most challenging uses of this software application,
described as slack-line leak detection. Based on two real
world pipelines that encounter various slack conditions, this
paper will explore the effects that are important in determining
leak thresholds in slack line conditions. Through analysis
of the pipeline case studies, the practicality of providing
slack-line leak detection with reasonable thresholds and averaging
times will be demonstrated. The result is added leak detection
protection for pipelines that experience slack conditions
during pipeline operation.
