Energy in Motion
Throughout its thirty years-long of experience in Mass Transit Energy Remote Control and Management
Systems, Telvent has developed a complete set of solutions for the optimization of electric energy management and the operation of passenger transport systems such as:
- High Speed Railway
- Railway
- Subway
- Light Subway
- Tramway
The solutions proposed by Telvent for field data acquisition devices, control systems, and operations and business applications have been developed to satisfy the above mentioned sectors’ needs. These solutions
constitute an equipment and applications suite that allows for interoperability between the applications,
themselves, and with other third-party equipment in order to optimize electric railway operations.

Energy Management System
Distribution Management System (DMS) applications can be used to track
actual railway network conditions or test different scenarios in the safety of a
simulated study-mode environment. The DMS helps the dispatcher see beyond
the substations with the inclusion of a network model, a topology processor
and a lightning-fast 3-phase, unbalanced load flow.
Telvent’s DMS is a suite of realtime and study-mode applications designed to support and enhance online distribution SCADA operations. The applications are seamlessly integrated with the OASyS SCADA system to
provide a consistent user interface and also make the applications accessible from any operator or engineering
workstation within the enterprise.
Energy Remote Control System
The Traction Energy Remote Control and Management System allows for the supervision and control of traction electric installations from one or several locations. Centralized management improves the availability indices of the installations, the outage response time, and the alternative solutions for
reducing personnel requirements.
The system is based on Telvent’s OASyS SCADA system and incorporates a
combination of Telvent’s experience, its know-how, and state-of-the-art open
system architectures.
With the purpose of adding value to the information obtained from the remote
control acquisition systems, Telvent has developed the following applications,
which are seamlessly integrated with the SCADA system:
- Exploitation sequences reconstruction
- Installations remote monitoring via Web
- Energy metering and quality analysis
- Outage management system
Distributed Control of Catenary Isolator and Auxiliary Railway Installations’ Power Supply Systems
Telvent’s distributed control system, comprised of a control cabinet, remote actuator and
voltage detector is designed to increase the security, efficiency and maintainability of
catenary systems, guaranteeing the security of the installations and their coordination with
associated remote control systems.
This solution has been developed for the remote control of both catenary circuit breakers and railway auxiliary feed systems. In either case, the traditional centralized configuration solution
is available.
Protection and Control System for Traction Electric Substations
Telvent provides integrated protection and control systems covering all voltage
level substations using a unique approach that combines its own products, such
as the Saitel and subCAT families of Remote Intelligent Units, and third-party
products. This approach is possible thanks to Telvent’s extensive integration
experience, proven expertise and strategic alliances with industry providers of
protective relays, meter devices, and remote control equipment.
The Saitel and subCAT family, developed by Telvent, provides robust, reliable, open, extensible, flexible control platforms capable of handling the monitoring and local control of traction electric substations, in
direct current (3.3 kV y 750 V) or alternate current (25 kV), thanks to its rich library of standard and legacy
communication protocols, advanced software tools, extensive modularity and high processing capability.
Acquisition Remote Terminal Units
Telvent owns a range of Acquisition Remote Terminal Units for integrating information coming from different locations along the railway line via its own or other third-party Remote Control Centers.
The solutions based on subCAT and Saitel technology guarantee this functionality in railway operative conditions as well as the modularity, expansion capability, reliability and interoperability
of the system for substations, catenary distributed control systems and third-party solutions.
The following are some examples of these data acquisition units’ components:
- Switching Centers
- Tunnel lighting cabins
- Switch heater
- Tunnel equipment
