Substations Automation System
Telvent provides integrated protection, measurement and control systems to substation of all voltage levels using a unique approach that combines its own products, such as the Saitel and subCAT families of Remote Intelligent Units, with third-party products including industry-leading protective relays, meter devices, manufacturers, etc.
Saitel suites deliver robust, reliable, open, expandable, flexible, state-of-the-art control platforms capable of handling the monitoring, control, automation and communications for transmission substations of all sizes by virtue of their rich library of standard and legacy communication protocols, advances software tools, modularity and high processing capability.
Telvent delivers optimized solutions tailored to its customers’ specific needs.
Distribution Management System (DMS)
Telvent’s DMS is a suite of realtime and study mode applications designed to support and enhance on-line distribution SCADA operations. The applications are seamlessly integrated with the OASyS SCADA system to provide a consistent user interface and also make the applications accessible from any operator or engineering Workstation within the enterprise.
DMS applications can be used to track actual network conditions or test
different scenarios in the safety of a simulated study-mode environment. The DMS helps the dispatcher see beyond the substations with the inclusion of a network model, a topology processor and a lighting-fast 3-phase, unbalanced load flow. The realtime network model is automatically linked to SCADA telemetry so that it stays synchronized with actual network conditions. Line coloring on one-line diagrams and geographic displays indicate the state of the distribution network in both realtime and study modes.
Geographical Information System (GIS)
More and more, utility companies require a more cost effective use of distribution assets through targeted investment for maintenance and growth. Utilities face tighter Information Technology (IT) budgets, reduced inhouse development staff, and the need to quickly deliver business benefits through applications. ArcFM provides a complete, out-of-the-box solution for facilities management designed to meet the needs of the utility business.
ArcFM 9, a powerful extension of ESRI’s ArcGIS platform, is a complete enterprise utility solution for editing, modeling, maintenance and management of facility and
land base information for electric, gas and water/wastewater utilities. ArcFM takes
advantage of an industry-standard architecture and programming environments, an
easy-to-use interface, and powerful cartographic tools, giving utilities an optimized
solution for the entire organization.
The main advantages of ArcFM Solution are the following:
- The ArcFM Solution provides a low cost, out-of-the-box solution for data maintenance and editing.
- The ArcFM Solution provides an integration framework that allows many sources and types of disparate data to be integrated which will support the effective operation and management of network assets.
- The ArcFM Solution provides a means for distributing data across the enterprise to:
- Improve the quality of asset data;
- Provide a faster turnaround for service requests;
- Eliminate redundancy; and
- Support better decision making
Telvent Metering System (TMS)
Telvent Metering System (TMS), is based on Echelon’s Networked Energy Services (NES), which utilizes an open, bidirectional, and extensible infrastructure to enable a comprehensive range of utility applications.
 Unlike “traditional” AMR systems that provide limited functionality over proprietary, often one-way networks, TMS system brings benefits to every aspect of a utility’s operation, from metering and customer services to distribution operations and value-added business. TMS is supported by a complete system software platform to supervise and communicate with data concentrators as needed to deliver smart metering services. It provides a standards-based web services applications, enabling simple integration to Java, .NET, or other web services aware applications and infrastructure from companies such as IBM, BEA Systems, Microsoft, Sun, HP, and Oracle.
Street Lighting: Intelligent Management of the Public Lighting System
The Public Lighting Systems in our cities are a basic and vital service for city councils and other public administration. On the one hand, citizens demand high quality service in accordance with our high development society. On the other hand, a lighting installation is an important energy consumption source that is affected by factors such as regulation and maintenance.
Although the technical features of a lighting installation are the first determinant of power efficiency, the ultimate determinant is effective operation management.
The operation of lighting installations presents unique features (variation of use periods, lights degradation, environmental aggression, etc.) that, besides geographical dispersion, make the right management difficult.
Therefore, besides satisfying citizens’ demand, there is the high potential for
saving power in implementing intelligent systems that help to manage lighting
systems.
