Telvent solutions for the measurement and dissemination of surface meteorological parameters are specially designed for their application in the road weather sector.

Telvent has been engaged in the development of innovative technologies in the field of predicting and detecting surface weather conditions, in combination with advanced real-time data acquisition systems, that work under extreme conditions.

All the applications of the automatic surface weather system basically use the same technology, but the number of sensors and the station configuration are selected to adapt to the specific needs of each application.

In highway applications, Telvent offers solutions that detect and predict the surface weather conditions in real time. Among the measured parameters are:

  • State of the roadway: dry, wet, damp, damp with chemicals, icy, snow-covered, etc.
  • Meteorological parameters: visibility, present weather, humidity, etc.
For the improvement and development of road safety and traffic flow, Telvent designs, integrates and manages Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) that help to run and maintain highway systems through the provision of precise information. This information includes forecasts of the temperatures and the atmospheric conditions on the roadway surface considering the antifreeze chemical agents present at the time, with the aim of accurately predicting the danger of ice appearing, among other phenomena.

The solution not only improves road safety and traffic flow, it also allows quick and precise decisions to be taken in critical situations such as those produced with the appearance of ice, or traffic congestion and difficulties on the highways. Moreover, it assists in and cares about environmental protection since, through precise data delivered in real time, it can reduce the unnecessary application of antifreeze chemical agents.
